Avenues Bistro

Oh ... What a find!

Avenues Bistro is another find from Check Please, Kansas City (the PBS show you really should check out).

Let me first say this. I have been mourning the loss of my all-time favorite KC restaurant, Sienna Bistro for a long time. No other restaurant I have been to has ever come close to them. Until now.

Avenues Bistro is a little place that you might miss if you're not looking for it. It's on the corner of a row of shops in quaint Brookside. From the outside, it looks so small. I assumed it was going to be super-small inside. But it is way bigger inside once you get into the dining room. There was a huge age range - from a bitty baby to the large group of high schoolers out for prom to the "experienced" diners.

There are so many good looking things on the menu that it was truly difficult to pick. So... I picked the first item and I'm already planning on going back to keep trying more things! Thought was put into this food. It wasn't just thrown together for you to not enjoy. There were layers of flavor and reasons for each of those flavors to be there.

If I lived in Brookside (a little dream of mine...) I honestly would go to Avenues Bistro often.

This is truly good food!

Blanc Burgers and Bottles

Oh boy did tonight's restaurant hit a craving for me!

I tried out Blanc Burgers + Bottles tonight in Westport. Have you been here yet?? Ya gotta check it out.

You can guess by the name what they serve. Burgers, right? And a TON of different beers. Lots to try from and our server was very helpful in picking one out. This is not your average American hamburger place where the meat is so processed and has so many fillers that you can't really tell that it's beef. This is GOOD meat with GOOD flavors added to it - not to hide what it's not, but to accentuate what it is.

I had the Inside Out Burger with blue cheese, bacon, and an onion ring right on it. I don't believe there are regular hamburger buns here. Mine was served on a brioche bun. Everything to add a kick to the flavor.

There is lots of character in here! The sides were served in mini metal shopping carts. Cute.

And a definite re-visit.
